  • What is the recommend maximum length of hose I can use with my extractor? (ANSWERED)

The best performance is achieved by using no more than the following using 1-1/2" ID hose:

    2 stage vacuum motor - 15 ft.
    3 stage vacuum motor - 25 ft.
    4 stages of vacuum (2 - 2 stages) = 50 ft.
5 stages of vacuum (one 2 stage and one 3 stage) 65 ft.
    6 stages of vacuum (2 - 3 stages or triple 2 stage) = 75 ft.
    7 stages of vacuum (2/2 stages with a 3 stage booster) = 85 ft.
    8 stages of vacuum (4 - 2 stages) = 100 ft of 1-1/2" ID vac hose.
    9 stages of vacuum (3 - 3 stages) = 125 ft
    12 stage of vacuum (4 - 3 stages) = 150 ft

    Rules to clean by:
    1. When you use 2" vacuum hose, hose lengths can be up to double these lengths.
    2. When you use a power wands or wands over 14"+ wide (Spin Master, RX-20, PowerMate 1800, Rotovac, Rotovac 360, Rotovac 360LX, Hoss700,..), the hose lengths are cut in half.
    3. On direct glue down installation of a polypropylene fiber carpets please cut all these lengths down by 1/3 since these fibers are 33% more likely to wick dirt back to the surface during the drying process than other fibers. *For detailed explanation of this please watch video on Advanced Fiber Characteristics.

    4. Some high performance 2 stage vacuum motors like 6600-052 Electro Motor perform as well or better than some 3 stage vacuum motors in the max CFM times format. Example, this special design accommodates for more CFM and still has great lift. The benefits this type of motor is that the lower fist blade is real large and does a great job of gulping the air into the vacuum motor and then vacuum motor blades squeezes the air through the motor. A pair of the these motors will clean at 150 ft of 2" hose.

    Here are some examples:
4 stages of vacuum with 1.5" hose and a power wand = 25 ft
8 stages of vacuum with 2" hose and a regular wand = 200 ft
8 stages of vacuum with 2" hose and a power wand or 14" wide wand = 100 ft
6 stages of vacuum with 1.5" hose and power wand or 14" wide wand = 35 ft
6 stages of vaccum with 2" hose and a power wand or 14" wide wand = 75 ft
9 stages of vacuum with 2" hose and a regular wand = 250 ft
9 stages of vacuum with 1.5" hose and a power wand = 63 ft
8 stage of vacuum with 2" hose and regular wand on polypropylene carpet 130 ft.
12 stages of vacuum with 2" hose and a power wand 150 ft.

Please note if you are using a short 1-1/2" vacuum hose leader in addition to you mostly 2" vacuum hose, we have not noticed a substantial loss in performance.
For example if you are using an 8 stage vacuum system with 100 ft of 2" + a 10 to 15 ft 1.5" leader still works great while you are using a 14" wand or power wand.

Can you go longer than these figures? Yes, carpet cleaners do it all the time. Just spend extra time with dry strokes, using smaller jets, or using additional floor fans to speed up the dry times.

Testing was performed over a 20 year period cleaning over 20,000,000 sq ft of cleaning and testing.
