A lot of people have dogs, cats and other pets that frequently or occasionally have accidents on the floors. Tile is easier to clean, but rugs, carpets and upholstery make the cleaning process much more difficult for homeowners. Quality carpet cleaning equipment is needed to restore the floors back to a condition that is presentable. Commercial carpet steam cleaners are really great with removing the bacteria caused by urine and feces.

What Your Customers Should Do

It's always a good idea to educate your customers about what they should do on their end to keep their carpets in good condition. This eliminates problems you would otherwise run into, like deep set-in stains. One way to prevent this from occurring is to quickly clean up the pet's messes.

But as with every cleaning procedure, there's a right and wrong way to do this. The right cleaning products and methods need to be used to prevent mistakes that can worsen the problem. Your customers will need a carpet extractor readily available to quickly clean up pet stains.

Cleaning Up Wet Messes

Accidents happen when you're potty training a pet, and even sometimes happens with pets that are already trained. Whatever the situation, the mess can be quickly cleaned using a handheld extractor. This will suck up all the liquids from the carpet, much like the carpet cleaning equipment professionals use, but not as strong. This is the preferred solution, over blotting it with paper towels or rags, which does a poor job of removing the liquid. This will then lead to the moisture dripping down to the subflooring, causing a deeper stain to set in.

Cleaning Up Solid Messes

A putty knife is most effective for solid messes. Just sink the edge of it into the carpet and push it into a dustpan. A lot of pet owners use a rag or paper towel for the job, which pushes it into the carpet. The putty knife helps to avoid this. Afterward, the stain can be sprayed with an oxygenated bio-enzymatic cleaner, which should set for 45 minutes. This will separate the solid waste from the fibers of the carpet.

Professional Spot Treatment

To get rid of the stains caused by pets, professional carpet cleaning equipment and solutions are sometimes needed. Make sure you have quality gear and spot removal products on hand to attack tough set-in stains.
