An auto mechanic might love his adjustable crescent wrench, but this cannot be the only tool in his toolbox as a professional. Too many variables on too many different types of jobs required different tools. This is true with air duct cleaning. No one tool can be the only tool you have on the service truck. In order to clean air ducts, you need some type of agitation system. This can be a solid core cable, an ultra-flex cable, air pressure alone, air pressure with agitation, vacuum drive, or manual brushes. Agitation can be created by pneumatic action (12 cfm+), clutched drill, or just air pressure by itself. A vacuum system must be included as well. This can be vacuum hose that lays inside the ducting (1.5” ID, or 2” ID), vacuum hose that attaches to the vent or register opening (2” ID), or 8”- 12” vacuum hose that attaches to the plenum or register opening. Vacuum sources can be from a multi-motor HEPA shop vacuum, propane, multimotored carpet or flood extraction machine, or high cfm units (2000- 5000 cfm) that operate on 120 volts, 240 volts, multiple 120-volt phases, or gasoline powered. Note to create 12+ CFM air pressure you will need two 120 volt air compressors ‘Y’ed together, or a single 240 volt, or gasoline air compressor. I will try to lay out small sampling of links below if different equipment types:
Vacuum Drive Unit (Only spins in 1 direction, best for round ducts under 10” diameter):

Solid Core, Clutch Drill Driven, 1.5” or 2” ID vacuum hose in the duct (lighter weight than ultra flex but does not bend as well)
