Question: I recently purchased a dial thermostat and it has a wide range from the time it shuts the water heater off until it comes back on. I set it between 190-200 degrees and when it reaches that temperature it shuts the heater down just fine, but it doesn't come back on until it gets down to 150-160 degrees F. I installed a tee inline but I don't think the sensor is high enough to be in the flow of the water, probably an inch or so below. Do you think it would help to make sure it's directly in the water flow so there isn't such a wide temperature range? Thanks!
Answer: Yes, the closer to the coil you can get the thermostat the better. I have seen some machine that have the thermostat 3 feet from the coil and it needs to be right next to the coil. I will also tell you a 30 degree swing is normal as this is what many customers experience.
