Compare: What are some the best features to look for in an electric flood extraction / vacuum air and water recovery unit?
Flood Extraction Auto dump units are used:
1) to suck water out of flood buildings,
2) unclog drains, mated with sewer jetters,
3) mated with pressure washing and carpet cleaning pumps for all types of hard (concrete and tile) and soft fabric cleaning (area rug and carpet, mattresses, upholstery, auto interior, and drape),
4) air duct cleaning
5) Hazmat clean up work
We compare the top flood extraction units on the market to see how they compare. To be considered the machines below must have an (APO) auto pump out. Here is the list of features to look for:
(A) Vacuum (is king),
(B) Tanks size,
(C) Locking front casters,
(D) Large size of rear wheels for stair climbing,
(E) Auto defoamer port for non stop auto dumping of water.
(F) Adjustable amp draw requirements for low power supplied buildings,
(G) Adjustable discharge hose size, (toggle between garden hose discharge and 1-1/2" ID discharge)
(H) Provides lint filtration included with machine,
(I) Clean air exhaust,
(J) Vacuum booster port,
(K) On board 500 psi (or larger) carpet cleaning pump for follow up work,
(L) Longer 50 ft power cords included (instead of 25 ft or no cords)
(M) Max Auto dump GPM size
Notes: Vacuum is king as more vacuum means longer hose runs, less machine relocating, and dryer carpet, less dehumidifier /air mover time, the ability to pull water uphill (example out of a basement), increase the possibility to run two tools/operators from the same machine. Machines that discharge under 10 gallons per minute (gpm) are used usually for sucking up water on carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning only. When mated with pressure washer recovery and really deep water extraction work require filtering and dumping dirty water much faster. Machines that dump water out of a garden hose usually will further limit the gpm ability as a garden hose usually maxes out at about 15 gallon per minute. Discharging water out a 1-1/2" ID hose can discharge 30 to 50 gallons per minute (depending on hose length). Can you perform water / flood extraction work with a machine that dumps under 10 gpm? Yes, you just might have to assist the auto dump with stopping and manual draining the machine (just a little slower getting the job done.) The Cross American 8.4 and 6.6 (as well as others) do not have a rating number next to it as it is really disqualified as a true flood pumper/water extraction machine because the gpm fell under 10 gpm. Instead they have other qualities like a 500/800 psi plump under the hood.
