I have a color brightener and know that this chemical is used to coat the fibers and mask the yellow. By doing this it improves the appearance. Is this permenent or temperary? And if I apply too much, can I take it off or will it go away in time?

Optical Brighteners for carpet cleaning
Optical brighteners reflect the violet spectrum of light, thereby giving the appearance that the carpet is cleaner than it might really be.
My understanding of optical brighteners is that they are quite permanent and are only removed by repeated heavy foot traffic, vacuum agitation and aggressive cleaning. I do not know what chemicals could be used to try to remove these products. I have not performed any testing with these chemicals.
