Question: I have a carpet cleaning / auto detail machine with 2 stage 5.7" diameter vacuum motors in it and it want to upgrade to a stronger vacuum but do not have more room under the hood for traditional 3 stage vacuum motors. What do you recommend?
Answer: Compare a traditional 2 stage motor
Open flow amps 7.8 / sealed amps 5.7 = average amp draw 6.75
Max cfm 96.7 X 92.5" of Lift = 8,944 vacuum units
and
to a high performance 2 stage vacuum motor.
The carbon brushes are larger and the motor has more windings in it causing the motor to fight back harder with the air.
11 amps open flow / 8.4 sealed amps / average amps 9.7
111.8" of water lift X 106.88 CFM = 11,949 Vacuum Units!
Amp draw is king. Vacuum motor that consumes and use more electricity will always perform better.
In this case, the high performance 2 stage will out perform most 3 stage vacuum motors without adding much size so more than likely it will fit in your machine.
Please note it is not uncommon to need to add an extra toggle switch, strain relief, and power cord to your machine so it will not trip breakers.
Compare to a traditional 3 stage motor.
10.7 amps open flow cfm / 6.7 amps @ sealed zero cfm / 8.7 amps average during use
117.4 inches of lift X 99 cfm = 11,622.60 vacuum units.
The High performance 2 stage vacuum motor (9.7 amps) is out sucking the traditional 8.7 amp draw 3 stage.
