Q. Why does it take so long to get an international ocean shipping quote?
A. There are websites that will provide quick quotes for air freight but, I know of no sites for ocean quotes. Air freight rates are fairly consistent but, the sites may not provide all of the charges for pickup and/or delivery because every country’s regulations are different for Customs, duties, taxes, etc. Ocean rates are renegotiated on an annual basis by all companies with all steamship lines. There are various seasonal charges, surcharges, truck/rail charges, etc.
